Not an organisation, but a network of mutually supporting networks.

 

1. Argentina – 10% of city “converted” in Carlos Anacondia crusade (40,000), only 1,000 remained. “Too many holes in the net.”

 

2. The net: 4 significant scriptures

 

a. Mark 1:19 mending nets (a human skill but limited)

 

b. Luke 5:6 their nets were breaking under the weight of the catch – humanly inadequate

 

c. Eph 4:12 APEPT “equip the saints for the work of the ministry”

 

Both are the Greek word katartidzo

 

d. John 21:11 153 large fish “the net was not torn”

 

153  = ?  land = Israel, sea = Gentiles  (chaos waters Gen 1; beasts from sea in Daniel 7; Rev 13)

 

no prophets, priests, kings in OT are fishermen, no one eats fish in OT

Jesus feeds 5000 with fish, calls fishermen, eats fish on beach after resurrection

Net = kingdom of God, fish = gentiles, brought by disciples to Jesus

 

Net does not tear as per Gospel story because this is a post –resurrection/ascension event .  This is the net –related function of the APEPT (cf. Eph 4:8ff “when he ascended on high…).

 

3. Marketplace Connect, incorporating Businessnet, Medianet, Healthnet, Lawnet etc. has this equipping and connecting role.

 

4. Marketplace Connect and Growing the Local Church

 

1. recognizing the attractional model is not succeeding either for the majority of congregations or in influencing culture e.g. Bill Hybels 2^nd paradigm shift

 

b.  recognizing that the order of priorities needs to be reversed from gathering as     

     church to penetrating the world as salt and light

 

c.  shift from centripetal church to centrifugal church

4. What do you have in your hand?

 

A biblical principle e.g. “The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.” 3 And he said, “Throw it on the ground.”” (Ex 4:2 - 3).

Start with what you have, not what you don’t have!

 

Some part of the net is in your hand – to be joined with other parts and released at the command of Jesus to catch and preserve the harvest.
