SEEING LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD
A transformation devotion that reframes identity, perception, decision-making, and purpose.
Introduction
Every believer sees life through one of two lenses:
- The Natural Lens — shaped by culture, past experiences, fear, and human logic.
- The Kingdom Lens — shaped by revelation, the Spirit, and the mind of Christ.
Jesus’ command,
“But seek first the kingdom of God…” (Matthew 6:33) was not merely a priority list; it was an invitation to adopt a Kingdom worldview—a new way of seeing reality.
To see through the Kingdom lens is to interpret life through:
- God’s government
- God’s values
- God’s wisdom
- God’s timing
- God’s purpose
This lens shifts how you think, feel, decide, and live.
🌳I. THE TWO LENSES THAT GOVERN HUMAN LIFE
1. The Earthly Lens
This lens is rooted in the fallen world (1 John 2:16) and sees life through:
- Fear
- Scarcity
- Offence
- Competition
- Self-preservation
- Flesh-driven reasoning
- Immediate comfort
- The visible realm
This is the lens Paul warns about: “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
(Colossians 3:2)
> The earthly lens produces anxiety, confusion, reaction, and spiritual blindness.
2. The Kingdom Lens
This lens is rooted in the Spirit and shaped by Heaven’s perspective:
Faith (2 Cor. 5:7)
- Abundance (Phil. 4:19)
- Sonship (Romans 8:15–17)
- Divine wisdom (James 1:5)
- Righteousness, peace, and joy (Romans 14:17)
- Long-term fruitfulness (John 15:16)
- The unseen realm (2 Corinthians 4:18)
- God’s purposes (Ephesians 1:9–11)
This lens allows you to live from revelation instead of reaction.
🌳II. THE KINGDOM WITHIN — THE SOURCE OF THE KINGDOM LENS
Jesus said something revolutionary: “The kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21)
This truth means:
- You do not try to access the Kingdom.
- You carry the Kingdom.
- You see from what you carry.
- The King’s government resides inside your spirit.
- Kingdom perception is not external — it is internal.
Because the Kingdom is within you:
- Your identity is anchored in Christ.
- Your perspective is shaped by Heaven.
- Your decisions are influenced by the indwelling Spirit.
- Your purpose flows from divine assignment, not human desire.
🌳III. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SEE THROUGH THE KINGDOM LENS?
1. It Means Interpreting Reality Through Revelation, Not Reaction
The Kingdom lens sees from God’s mind, not the carnal mind.
> “We have the mind of Christ.”
— (1 Corinthians 2:16)
This means:
- You see battles as platforms for authority (Luke 10:19).
- You see lack as a setup for multiplication (Matthew 14:13–21).
- You see people as assignments, not obstacles (John 4:7–42).
- You see suffering as formation, not punishment (Romans 5:3–5).
2. It Means Allowing the Spirit to Shape Your Worldview
The Holy Spirit becomes your internal compass.
> “When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth.”
— (John 16:13)
Kingdom vision is Spirit-given, not self-generated.
3. It Means Seeing the Invisible Behind the Visible
The natural sees events.
The Kingdom sees patterns, purposes, and spiritual dynamics.
> “For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
— (2 Corinthians 4:18)
Kingdom people discern seasons, not just circumstances.
🌳IV. FOUR AREAS OF LIFE TRANSFORMED BY THE KINGDOM LENS
1. Identity
- Earthly lens: I am who my past says I am.
- Kingdom lens: I am who the King says I am.
> “Beloved, now we are children of God.”
— (1 John 3:2)
> “You are a chosen generation… a royal priesthood.”
— (1 Peter 2:9)
Identity becomes unshakable because it is rooted in sonship.
2. Purpose & Assignment
- Earthly lens: What do I want to become?
- Kingdom lens: What was I sent to accomplish?
> “You are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand…”
— (Ephesians 2:10)
Purpose becomes mission, not ambition.
Assignment becomes obedience, not self-promotion.
3. Relationships
- Earthly lens: Who benefits me?
- Kingdom lens: Who is part of my mandate? Who am I sent to?
> “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
— (John 13:35)
You see through love, not ego.
Reconciliation, not offense (2 Corinthians 5:18–19).
4. Challenges & Seasons
- Earthly lens: Why is this happening to me?
- Kingdom lens: What is God forming or revealing in me through this?
> “And we know that ALL things work together for good to those who love God…”
— (Romans 8:28)
- Trials become training.
- Wilderness becomes preparation.
- Delay becomes development.
- Warfare becomes confirmation of destiny.
🌳V. PRACTICAL DAILY FRAMEWORK: HOW TO SEE THROUGH THE KINGDOM LENS
A. AWARENESS — Recognise Your Lens
> “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
— (Romans 12:2)
Ask:
- Am I interpreting this moment through fear or faith?
- Through culture or Scripture?
B. ALIGNMENT — Reset Your Inner World
Pray:
> “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
— (Matthew 6:10)
Alignment happens when your thoughts, desires, and motives submit to Heaven’s order.
C. ATTENTION — Focus on the King’s Voice
> “My sheep hear My voice.”
— (John 10:27)
- You see whatever you give attention to.
- Meditate on the Word.
- Invite the Spirit to illuminate situations.
- Refuse to magnify problems above the King.
D. ACTION — Live Out the Kingdom Lens
> “The doer… will be blessed in what he does.”
— (James 1:25)
Kingdom vision must produce Kingdom decisions:
- Peace-led choices
- Love-driven responses
- Integrity-based leadership
- Trust-filled obedience
- Spirit-led strategies
- Faith-based action
🌳VI. JESUS: THE PERFECT MODEL OF THE KINGDOM LENS
Jesus consistently saw differently:
- When others saw sickness → He saw opportunity for glory (John 9:1–3).
- When others saw storms → He saw a moment to exercise authority (Mark 4:39).
- When others saw death → He saw sleep (John 11:11).
- When others saw sinners → He saw sons (Luke 15).
- When others saw five loaves → He saw multiplication (Matthew 14).
Jesus was governed not by what was around Him, but by what was within Him — the Kingdom.
🌳VII. SHIFTING YOUR LENS IN REAL TIME
When worried:
> “Cast all your care upon Him.” (1 Peter 5:7)
When offended:
> “Be kind… forgiving one another.” (Ephesians 4:32)
When uncertain:
> “Trust in the Lord with all your heart…” (Proverbs 3:5–6)
When discouraged:
> “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
When attacked:
> “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” (Isaiah 54:17)
This is the Kingdom lens in real time — Scripture reframing your perception.
