The predominant style of worship today cannot be better described than the quote by an American missionary (1884-1973), Stanley Jones which goes thus "My fear for the Church of the future is not that they shall reject the Kingdom of God but that they may reduce it, and reduce it to simply only being the Church."
In John 4:21,23-24, Jesus Christ was clear about an effective style of worship befitting for our generation. He said to the woman of Samaria (paraphrased) that the hour is coming when you will neither worship the Father on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
Limitless! Worship without boundaries. That is what the Kingdom lifestyle connotes and what Jesus expects from us. The "Church is in the Kingdom" and not the other way round the "Kingdom is in the Church". Unfortunately, we have knowingly or unknowingly defined our worship or relationship boundaries with God to the four walls of the church building or, at best MAGH group. Again limitless worship is what God wants, for the Father is seeking such to worship him.
Our scope of worship should be more than being members of any particular Church or Christian group but perceived as sons of God. In Mathew 16:21 - 24, people saw Jesus Christ in the image of John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. Those descriptions needed to be better for Jesus. They would limit His scope. Jesus was excited to have Peter describe Him as the son of the living God. That was His true descript. A limitless description without boundaries, just like Moses described who sent him to Pharaoh- the I Am sent me. Afterwards, Jesus made a profound declaration after His description by Peter. That upon this limitless revelation, I will build a Church without boundaries, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Let us not frustrate this declaration by Jesus Christ of our overcoming disposition by living a Kingdom lifestyle within boundaries. In verse 19 of Mathew 16, Jesus gave us something significant for living an overcoming lifestyle - The KEYs of the Kingdom of heaven. Not just one KEY to the church you attend but KEYs to the Kingdom - your lifestyle, wherever you find yourself. And Jesus went further and said with these KEYs to the Kingdom, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. We have the KEYs to the kingdom in our homes, our neighbourhood, our communities, our working places, our Churches, a place of comfort, also a condition of distress. We pray that we will always open the doors wherever we find ourselves to the Kingdom life.
Prayer Points:
PRAYERS
1. Lord, with this revelation, help me not limit the scope of my Kingdom lifestyle to the church or any particular place I consider to be the place of worship. Praying for the limitless Kingdom
consciousness.
2. Lord, give me the grace to be conscious of the KEYs to Kingdom of heaven you have given me to open Your Kingdom to wherever or whatever condition I find myself.
3. Lord, I use the KEYs of the Kingdom to open your authority and power over my situations and locations. Henceforth, they come under Your control and Kingship.
