Matt4:19: “And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
John1:48 “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
Mark3:14 “And he appointed the twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach”
It’s God that initiated this call in our lives to follow Him. (Philippians 2:13 )”For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”
The Journey of Following Jesus is described in the bible as:
1. A WALK with God: (Step by Step dependence on Him.) Gen 17:1-2 “…walk before me, and be blameless” Gen5:24 “ Enoch walked with God..” 3John 1:4 “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” Amos 3:3 “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?”
2. A Race: (Pushing forward against the odds.) Heb 12:1 “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us”. Phil 3:14 “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
3. A FIGHT of faith: (Contending for the faith) Jude1:3 “… Earnestly contend for the faith..) 1Tim 6:12 “Fight the good fight of the faith.
Prayer Points:
Prayer Point 1: Pray that God will unite our heart with His as we lean into His grace each day in our walk with Him-Amos 3:3
Prayer point 2: Pray for strength to endure and grace to keep our eyes on Jesus.- Heb12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” We want to run well and finish strong. Gal 5:7 “Ye did run well…”
Prayer point 3: Pray for the wisdom to fight the good fight. Mark 3:14 that God will contend with anything that would like to disconnect us from the fountain of living water.
May He keep us connected to His Presence, dwelling in the secret place of the most High as we follow Him daily in Jesus Name. Amen.
