Content:
2 Timothy 1:3-7
I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy, when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
1. Spirit of fear.
• A spirit of fear comes from not being able to put our trust completely in God.
• The Bible reminds us over and over again not to fear; some estimate that this directive is included as many as 365 times, but it is certainly over a hundred.
• The vast majority of mental, emotional ,and physical illnesses have some form of fear at the root. Much of the stress, anxiety, and worry we experience in this life are the results of a spirit of fear.
• The spirit of fear is not hard to find. Fear is the basic nature of Satan (the source of every spirit of fear). The Bible tells us that Satan is the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4). The majority of people in this world are under the influence of a spirit of fear in one way or another.
Some scripture on fear.
Psalms 23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Psalms 34:4
I sought the LORD, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
