*Matthew 14:22-36*
There is a natural law that states: "everything takes the path of least resistance." Whether it's electricity, rocks, or water, things tend to follow the easiest route when left to themselves. Just like a river going around obstacles to reach its destination, human nature also seeks the path of least resistance. In our fallen state, we often prefer easier ways rather than the tougher ones – after all we’re only human! However, with the power of the Holy Spirit, we can find the courage and strength to press through impossible situations.
*The “Bokeh Experience” with Christ*
I. *Following Christ's Directives* (Matthew 14:22-24)
Jesus had just finished miraculously feeding the 5,000 and needed some time alone to rest and pray. He commanded the disciples to go to the other side of the lake for their next ministry opportunity. By obeying Christ's directive, they were following God's will, even though they had no idea what challenges awaited them.
Following God's will didn't guarantee smooth sailing. They found themselves going nowhere in the midst of a storm. They worked hard but couldn't reach their destination due to strong opposition. Despite their efforts, they were stuck.
Even when we face hardships while following God's will, we may not always understand the reasons behind it - we might question God's guidance. However, it's essential to trust in His authority, even when circumstances seem impossible.
II. *Overcoming Fears and Finding Courage* (Matthew 14:25-31)
As the storm got bigger, the disciples were terrified. Their old beliefs surfaced, causing them to react in fear. Despite their shortcomings, they were still Jesus' disciples, just humans!. We must acknowledge our weaknesses and continue growing in Christ.
Peter walked on water as long as he kept his eyes fixed on Jesus. But when he looked at the storm, he began to sink. Yet, even in his doubt, Peter cried out, "Lord, save me!" Jesus immediately reached out and rescued him. Desperate situations often lead us to seek God's intervention.
III. * Having Faith and Recognizing Christ* (Matthew 14:32-36)
After Jesus rescued Peter, they walked back to the boat amidst the ongoing storm. It wasn't until Jesus was on board that the storm finally subsided. They were faced with a decision—to acknowledge Jesus as God and respond with worship. Mere intellectual acknowledgment is not enough; true recognition demands a response full of worship.
