Bible begins and ends with references to light.

Light was one of the first thing God created

 

Genesis 1:3-5 NIV. 

3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

 

light is defined as the energy source for illumination.Its the power that makes sight possible . The sun provides light , energy and power , the same way the light of God thats upon us gives us power through his word.

As scripture says we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

 

There are over 200 references to light in the Old and New Testaments.

 

Light is a representation of God’s presence and glory 

Light stands for goodness and holiness as opposed to evil 

Light is truth as opposed to the darkness of falsehood 

Light is a symbol of God’s favor and blessing 

 

Jesus the Light of the World

John 8-12

Jesus said 

"I am the light of the world. 
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

 

John 1:1-5

"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

 

Christ's light represents and brings life. His light cannot be extinguished. His Light actively overcomes darkness

 

Matthew 5:14-16

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

 

HOW CAN WE BE THE LIGHT OF GOD ?

Being the light means doing your best to live each day on purpose and in a way that's pleasing to God. It means showing kindness and compassion to others and yourself. It's about looking for opportunities to be more like Jesus, to lift others up, and to do the right thing.

Its our responsibility to let our lights shine in this dark world. Its a calling on us to live a life reflecting the love and truth of Christ. By doing so, we glorify God, we invite others to experience his goodness, thus contributing  to the restoration and redemption of the world that God has given us.

 

Revelation 22-5

There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

 

TESTIMONY 

As I shared the story of late Matthew on the first Sunday of 2024

His friend who has spoken at his funeral said he asked Matthew a question.

Meaning 

I see the light

Many times we hear testimonies of people seeing the light when the Lord is taking them back to be with them

Thank God for he has given us the light of his Word, He has led us into relationship with him. He has shown us the path of righteousness. 

Thank him for the promise that we will one day dwell in his eternal light.

Meditate on your calling to be the light of the world. 

Ask the Holy Spirit how he wants to use you to be the light of the world today
