Content:
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Every one of us faces needs in our lives; at times, they are beyond our own means.
I shared an experience on this platform a few weeks ago about how my family and I came from a 5 week holiday in Kenya and found that a flood had occurred in our house that was caused by a burst water pipe in our master bedroom.
The damage was caused was quite extensive and expensive. We lost all our bedroom furniture including a laptop that was on the floor. The walls and floors were moist and covered with mould, not to mention the overpowering smell that filled our house.
We had just spent a huge amount of our savings during the holiday, so this was not something we were prepared to deal with.
As if that wasn't enough, when we arrived home, we discovered that one of our large suitcases was missing. A passenger in our flight had accidentally picked up our suitcase and we picked up theirs, which looked quite similar to ours. To make matters worse, I was informed by the baggage claim department that the passenger that picked our suitcase had already boarded a connecting flight to Sydney with our luggage. - When it rains, it pours....
During times of need, those are not the times to become anxious or to panic. Nor should we give up in defeat. It is at these times that God wants us to draw from His unlimited storehouse as we allow Him to meet our need.
Philippians 4:19 is one of the most practical scriptures we will ever encounter in the Bible.
Following our incidents on return from Kenya, I remember how my wife and I decided not to worry or get discouraged. We knew that this was just a test and testimony was going to emerge from it. We thanked God for the safe journey as we waited for God’s intervention. We had witnessed his faithfulness and knew He would not forsake us.
Long story short, our luggage was recovered in two days time, our insurance agreed to cover all the cost of repairs which included an upgraded flooring and replaced all our damaged items in ways that exceeded our expectations.
Do you believe God can meet the needs of your finances? Your health? Your family needs?
Philippians 4:19 says you will never face a need for which God's provision is not more than adequate.
While preparing this devotion, I reflected on how the Lord took care of our need. He revealed Himself as Jehovah Jireh - " Our Provider".
The Name Jehovah
The name - Jehovah or Yahweh is directly linked with seven specific names representing seven aspects of God’s covenant-keeping faithfulness in His dealings with humankind.
In the order of their occurrence, I will mention seven names that reveal God's nature:
3.Jehovah Nissi - the one who is our banner. Exodus 17:15
4. Jehovah Shalom - the one who is our peace. Judges 6:24
5. Jehovah Rohi - the one who is our shepherd. Psalm 23:1
6. Jehovah Tsidkenu - the one who is our righteousness. Jeremiah 23:6
7. Jehovah Shammah - the one who is there or permanently present. Ezekiel 48:35
Jehovah Jireh -“The One Who Provides"
This title is first mentioned in Genesis 22 in the story of Abraham taking his son Isaac to Mount Moriah to offer him as a sacrifice to the Lord.
When they arrived at the foot of the mountain, Abraham told his servants to remain there with the donkey and he took Isaac and the fire for the burnt offering and they went together up the mountain. And so this is what followed in Genesis 22:6-8:
â€â€Genesis 22:6-8 NIV‬‬
[6] Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, [7] Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” [8] Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.
When they came to the top of the mountain, Abraham had prepared the sacrifice. At the last moment, God intervened and told him that he did not require the sacrifice of Isaac, and instead Abraham sacrifices a ram that he found caught by its horns in a thicket.
Then we read on in the same chapter, verse 14, and this is where the name Jehovah Jireh comes from:
“And Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide...”
God’s first covenant commitment is to provide. This is the root of all His commitment, He provides for His people.
As I was preparing this devotion, I discovered that according to many scholars, Golgotha and the ancient site of Mount Moriah may be the same area. In other words, scholars believe that Jesus may have been crucified near Moriah or at its summit.
We have this beautiful preview of what took place at Calvary when Abraham and Isaac went up the mountain. We have these beautiful types.
• Abraham typifies God the Father.
• Isaac typifies God the Son.
• The fire for the sacrifice typifies the Holy Spirit.
• The wood that Isaac carried typifies the cross.
• And finally the ram typifies Jesus, who was the perfect and final sacrifice for our sins.
In the heart of a story that has echoed through time, where Abraham was
asked to sacrifice his son lies a profound prophecy.
This moment on Mount Moriah wasn't just a test of faith for Abraham. It was a divine preview of God's ultimate plan for humanity.
As Abraham raised the knife prepared to obey, God intervened providing a ram as the sacrifice. This act was more than a mere substitution; it was a clear foreshadowing of what God himself would do for all mankind.
Fast forward centuries later and the prophecy unfolds. God sent His son Jesus.
Jesus was not just sent to teach or to heal but to become the sacrifice Abraham never had to complete.
As we are about to go into the Easter season, it is a reminder that Jesus, on the cross, was the Lamb God provided - a perfect, final sacrifice for our sins.
The mountain, named " God will provide" became the backdrop not only for Abraham's test, but for the greatest act of provision in history:
This is how John the Baptist spoke of Jesus in John 1:29:
“The next day he [that’s John the Baptist] saw Jesus coming to him, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’”
Prayer Points:
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank you for loving us so much that you gave your one and only son, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”
We humble ourselves before you Lord. Holy Spirit , search our hearts and reveal to us where we have sinned against you. We confess and repent of any known and unknown sins hidden in our hearts. Purify our hearts Lord.
As we put on the breastplate of righteousness, we declare that we are now in right standing with you Lord. â€â€
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.(2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT)
Lord we thank you that our sins are forgiven and we are adopted into your family.
Trust Him to provide
We can sum all we have discussed above in one verse of the New Testament, Romans 8:32.
“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?”
Jehovah Jireh provides for our physical, spiritual, emotional, relational needs according to His riches in glory.
The Lord will provide...” Not just in one situation, not just for one need, but in every situation, for every need.
The Lord has made a covenant commitment associated with His own divine, personal, unchanging name. He will always provide for His people.
The ultimate proof and the ultimate provision is in the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, who became the sin offering, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
If you are not experiencing God's bountiful provision, what is the
problem? Is the difficulty with God? Or could it be that you do not really believe that God stands ready to meet your every need?
Every resource of God is available to any child of God who will believe Him. No one has ever exhausted God's supply when trusting Him.
â€â€Psalms 37:25 NIV‬‬
I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.
Ephesians 3:20 NKJV‬‬
[20] Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,
Our God is able to meet our needs and do far beyond anything we can ask or imagine.
Unfortunately, some Christians live as if God's abundant resources were not available to them. They are children
of the King, but they live like beggars!
Would the people close to you affirm that your life gives evidence of an
unwavering belief that God will do what He said?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I commit every need I have to you including the needs in my family. I choose not to become worried or anxious about my physical, spiritual, emotional, financial or relational needs.
I thank you because you are my shepherd and that you have promised to supply all my need according to your riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
In conclusion, I would like to reiterate;
"You cannot have the provision without the Lamb. The provision is in the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ."
May we all grow in our relationship with God as we walk in close fellowship with the Holy Spirit. In seasons of need, may we learn to trust that only He is capable of supplying all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
