UNDERSTANDING YOUR IDENTITY

KNOW GOD KNOW YOU. NO GOD NO YOU.

Content:

Daniel 11:32b - “Those who know their God shall be strong and do great exploits.

> Your accurate perception of God is the only way to truly know who you are.

Matthew 3:16 - “When He had been baptised, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.
And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying,
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

John 14:6 - “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Genesis 1:26 - “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
*So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.”

Identity is a fundamental aspect of who we are - it encompasses our image, values, beliefs, roles, and the way we see ourselves in relation to God and the world around us. Developing a strong, coherent sense of identity is crucial for our overall well-being and personal growth.

> The enemy’s best strategy is to keep you ignorant of who you are in Christ.

If, however, you know who you are, then he’ll attempt to make you second-guess yourself
(Matthew 4:1-11).

- Your identity is what God sent his Son to restore.
- Your identity changes your position.
- Your identity changes your inheritance.
- Your identity changes your access.
- Your identity changes authority.
- Your identity changes affiliation and your alignment.

Understanding Your Identity in Christ
Your identity in Christ is foundational to living a fulfilling Christian life. When you understand who you are in God's eyes, it can transform how you see yourself and live out your faith.

The Importance of Identity in Christ
As a Christian, your identity is not defined by your accomplishments, relationships, or circumstances - it is defined by your relationship with Jesus Christ. Scripture teaches that when you put your faith in Christ, you become a "new creation"
2 Corinthians 5:17.
Your old sinful nature is gone, and you are given a new identity as a child of God
John 1:12
This new identity in Christ brings many benefits. It means you are forgiven, redeemed, and adopted into God's family
(Ephesians1:5-7)
You are no longer defined by your past mistakes, but by Christ's perfect record. Your worth is not based on your performance, but on the finished work of Jesus. This frees you to live with confidence, purpose, and security, knowing that your identity is secure in Christ.

Pray
Father, by Your Spirit, help me to not lose sight of my identity in Christ. Let all voices contrary to who You have declared me to be; be silenced. I bear the mark of Christ. Let Your Spirit bring to my remembrance always who I am in Christ. Amen

The Benefits of Understanding Your Identity
God-Awareness: A strong sense of identity allows us to better understand our God and own thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This awareness enables us to make more informed decisions and live more authentic lives.
Confidence and Self-Esteem: When we have a clear understanding of our identity, we are more likely to feel confident in our abilities and have a positive self-image. This can lead to greater self-acceptance and a stronger sense of self-worth.
Purpose and Direction: A well-developed identity provides us with a sense of purpose and direction in life. It helps us to set goals, make meaningful choices, and stay motivated in pursuing our aspirations.
Stronger Relationships Individuals with a strong sense of identity are often better equipped to navigate interpersonal relationships. They are more likely to communicate effectively, set healthy boundaries, and find fulfilment in their connections with others.
Resilience
A clear understanding of one's identity can serve as a foundation for resilience, enabling individuals to better cope with challenges and bounce back from setbacks.

The Danger of Misunderstanding Identity
Unfortunately, many Christians struggle to fully grasp and live out of their identity in Christ. They may still define themselves by their failures, insecurities, or the opinions of others. This can lead to issues like low self-esteem, people-pleasing, and an inability to walk in the freedom and authority Christ has given them.

When you don't understand your true identity, you may try to find your worth in other things - your job, relationships, appearance, or achievements.
But these will always leave you feeling empty, as they cannot provide the lasting fulfilment that only Christ can. You may also struggle to fully surrender to God's will for your life, as you are still clinging to your own sense of identity and control.

Pray
Father, I receive the revelation and understanding of my identity in You. Help me to not base my knowledge of my identity on mere feelings, my insecurities, my current contrary experiences or even my accomplishments. Help me have a revelation of who You are so I may better understand who I am in You.

Embracing Your Identity in Christ
The solution is to renew your mind with the truth of who you are in Christ
*Romans 12:2.
Study Scripture to understand your new identity - you are God's beloved child, a co-heir with Christ, the temple of the Holy Spirit, and more. Meditate on verses that affirm your worth and position in Christ.

As you embrace this truth, it will transform how you see yourself and live out your faith. You'll be able to approach God with confidence, serve others with compassion, and walk in the freedom and authority He has given you.

> Your identity in Christ will become the foundation for all you do.

In the end, understanding your identity in Christ is not just an abstract theological concept - it is the key to experiencing the abundant life Jesus promised.
> When you know who you are in Him, it changes everything.
