Topic: MINISTERING TO THE LORD
Content:
1 Samuel 3:1-4 - “Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare (precious) in those days; there was no widespread revelation. 2 And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see,
3 and before the lamp of God went out in the tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down. 4 that the Lord called Samuel. And he answered, “Here I am!”
To minister to the Lord means ‘to draw near to Him and give to Him our very best worship, praise and devotion. We are doing something to bless Him and give Him pleasure.’
Wisdom Nuggets
1. Eli’s son represented believers that are consumed and glory in self.
2. Samuel in the midst of this environment chose to faithfully minister to the Lord: he made his life a living sacrifice.
3. Eli represents organised systems we look up to, which is now dormant, blind (without vision), and has lost access to knowledge and divine intelligence.
4. Because Samuel ministered to the Lord, God endowed Samuel with what was a rarity in his days.
> God will give to those who ask, but will give His best to those who are willing to minister to Him.
Pray Father I give myself away to You anew. Let my life be a sacrifice as I minister to You. IJN
1 Samuel 3:9-19 - “9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.” 11 Then the Lord said to Samuel: “Behold, I will do something in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.”
Wisdom Nuggets
1. Two characters lying down. One was dormant/dead, while the other was still/alive.
2. Honour and respect the office of the anointed of the Lord.
3. You may need to grow through seasons of stillness where God build capacity into you.
4. God requires that you are still, to know that He is God. How? By doing something in your life at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle. This is great exploits.
Pray Father I receive your peace in the eye of the storm. Let my soul be still in Your presence so that I’m able to experience Your greatness in all situations.
