Topic: LIVING LIFE FOR THE PURPOSE
Content:
As we study the word we find there are many men in the Bible that discovered their purpose ,likewise we can learn to discover our purpose in life.
We look at the life of JOSHUA
God chose a new leader in Joshua for the people of Israel after Moses died.
He called Joshua to lead them.
God commanded Joshua to follow the law of Moses as it is written in
Joshua 1:7 NKJV.
Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you;do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.”
Joshua prospered and accomplished God’s purpose by following the Book of the Law.
Joshua knew the plan and purpose of his life to serve the people.
Likewise, we can accomplish God’s purpose for us by following the truth he has already given us with the written word in the Bible.
We look at the life of SOLOMON
1 Kings 3:5
At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”
When God called Solomon, he did so in a dream. Solomon knew God had called him to be king in the place of his father David and God was offering him whatever he wanted.
However, Solomon knew to be careful and not ask for material things. What he asked for was wisdom and knowledge so that he could lead the people well.
This pleased God. So, in addition to making Solomon a wise leader of the people, he also gave him the things he could have asked for and did not. He gave him riches, peace from all his enemies, and a long, prosperous life.
(When given the chance to have anything in the world, Solomon asked for wisdom (a discerning heart) in order to make right decisions.According to the New Testament we can ask God for the same wisdom as it is written in James 1-5. Solomon asked for discernment to carry out his job, he did not ask God to do the job for him, likewise we should not ask God to do for us what he wants to do through us. Instead we should ask God to give us the wisdom to know what to do and the courage to follow through it.
Solomon knew the plan and purpose for his life ,to serve the people.
What we learn from Solomon is when there is a calling upon our lives we need to act upon it , for it is not about the material things of the world ,but to help and serve people and all else shall follow.
We look at the life of one more great man of God Paul
Consider Paul’s purpose. God called Paul through Ananias.
Acts 9:15-16 NKJV
But the Lord said to him, ‘Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.’”
God called Paul to suffer for the sake of the gospel. The persecutor became the persecuted. But through it all, Paul learned to be content despite the hardships. While he was in prison, he wrote this,
Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!”
Think about it how does someone go through such difficulty and still say this.
Paul had Faith, he knew his suffering was only for a short while.
Paul knew Gods plan and purpose for his life.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.
For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
In the same way, finding your purpose has eternal consequences. Your purpose will affect people for eternity like Paul Everything done in this world will someday be a distant memory except for that with eternal ramifications.
TESTIMONY
FIND YOUR PURPOSE
Our calling, our purpose, our ministry, is something that all believers have.
Just like Joshua, we will come to know our purpose as we read and meditate on the word .
In the same way as Moses, our purpose will take Faith
Just as Solomon, our purpose will be for people, not things.
In the same way as Paul, our true purpose will have significance beyond this life that God has given us
Matthew 7:7
“Ask, and it will be given to you;seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Lets be encouraged to ask God to reveal his purpose for us. And when he does, he will definitely walk with you according to the purpose that he gives you.
Exodus 9:16
But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
Prayer
Whatever purpose God has chosen you for, pray ,Father, I know I’m not the best one who can fulfill that purpose, but you have chosen me. Enable me to draw closer to your presence each day and inspire me to do your will. Show me your power, so that your name will be proclaimed in all the earth through me.
