Ephesians 5:15-17 - “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”

 

Notice Verse 17 stipulates that you understand the will of God, not just have a mere knowledge of it.

 

3 Types of Believers

1. Foolish believers: Those who do not know the will of God

2. Unwise believers: Those who know the will of God

3. Wise believers: Those who know the will of God and have waited patiently to obtain the wisdom of God (strategy) to command the reality of or execute His will in their life.

 

> Many believers become victims of destiny because they lack the divine strategy to execute or commands the will of God in their lives.

 

Circumspectly [akribós]

There is a way to walk: circumspectly [carefully, with exactness, extremely accurate, gaining exact information with the highest level of accuracy and is acquired by probing investigation to provide a comprehensive precise view in strict adherence to the facts]. The denotes the exactness of the information rather than the diligence of the search for it. 

 

A. The Process of God’s Image Being Formed in Joshua

 

Exodus 33:8 - “So it was, whenever Moses went out to the tabernacle, that all the people rose, and each man stood at his tent door and watched Moses until he had gone into the tabernacle. 9 And it came to pass, when Moses entered the tabernacle, that the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses. 10 All the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the tabernacle door, and all the people rose and worshiped, each man in his tent door.” 

 

Exodus 33:11 - “So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.”

 

B. Joshua Functioning in the Likeness of God

Joshua 6

 

1. The challenge: “Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel” (Verse 1).

 

2. Knowledge of God’s Will (The What): “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valour.” (Verse 2)

 

3. Understanding of Divine Strategy (The How): “You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horn before the ark…And the people shall go up every man straight before men.”

 

> The foolishness of God is wiser than men.

 

4. Mobilisation and Instructions: “Then Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horn before the ark of the Lord. And he said to the people, “Proceed, and march around the city, and let him who is armed advanced before the ark of God.” (Verse 6-7)

 

5. Strategy Harvested from Divine Wisdom: “You shall not shout or make any noise with your voice, nor shall a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I say to you, ‘Shout!’ Then you shall shout.” 11 So he had the ark of the Lord circle the city, going around it once. Then they came into the camp and lodged in the camp.” (Verse 10)

 

“But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. 16 And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city! 17 Now the city shall be doomed by the Lord to destruction, it and all who are in it.” (Verses 15-17)

 

6. Achievement of Superior Results: “So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat.”

 

7. His Presence, Your Fame: “So the Lord with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout all the country.”
