How Intimacy with God Ignites Love for Others:

1 John 4:19-20 (NKJV)
"We love because He first loved us. If someone says, 'I love God,' but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?"

How clearly do your actions say you really love others?

It is easy to say we love God when that love doesn’t cost us anything more than weekly attendance at church services. But the real test of our love for God becomes evident in how we treat the people right in front of us—our family members, fellow believers, neighbours or work colleagues including those who do not reciprocate our love.

We can not truly love God while neglecting to love those who are created in His image. Jesus’ love reveals itself in our compassion, our generosity, and our ability to listen to and help others.

Intimacy with God is like being a river that flows from a boundless ocean (God's love). As we drink deeply from His love, our river overflows, nourishing and refreshing those around us.

Our relationship with God is like a fountain that flows from His infinite reservoir of love. As we drink from His fountain, our hearts overflow, quenching the thirst of others.

Three Ways Intimacy with God Fosters Love for Others:

 1. Understanding God's Love:

As we experience God's love, we grasp its unconditional nature. This comprehension helps us love and serve others without without resentment or expectation of reciprocation.

1 John 3:1 AMP
See what an incredible quality of love the Father has shown to us...

Understanding God's Love requires a revelation by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 5:5 NKJV
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

 2. Empathy and Compassion:

Intimacy with God cultivates empathy, allowing us to see others through His eyes.

1 Peter 3:8 TPT
[8] Now, this is the goal: to live in harmony with one another and demonstrate affectionate love,  sympathy,  and kindness toward other believers. Let humility describe who you are as you dearly love one another.

 3. Reflecting God's Character:

As we pursue intimacy with God, we reflect His character. Love, kindness, and humility become integral to our interactions.

Ephesians 5:1-2 NKJV
[1] Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.[2] and walk continually in love [that is, value one another—practice empathy and compassion, unselfishly seeking the best for others], just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God [slain for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance.

John 13:34-35 NKJV
[34] A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  [35] By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Reflection Questions:

1. How can we deepen our understanding of God's love as we pursue intimacy with Him?
2. How has your experience of God's love impacted your relationships?
3. In what ways can we demonstrate love and kindness to someone today?

James 2:14-17 NLT
What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don't show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? [15] Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, [16] and you say, "Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well"-but then you don't give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? [17] So you see, faith by itself isn't enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

May your intimacy with God ignite a passion to love others.

Prayer Points:

Prayer Points

 1. A deeper understanding and revelation of God's love.

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your unwavering love. As I draw closer to You, help me grasp and understand the depth of Your love. Holy Spirit, grant me a revelation of Your unconditional love.

I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources , You will empower us with inner strength through Your Spirit. Then Christ will make His home in our hearts as we trust in Him. Our roots will grow down into God's love and keep us strong. And may we have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May we experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then, we will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.(Ephesians 3:16-19 NLT)

 2. Expression of love to others

Heavenly Father,
Your Word says;
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction]. (1 Corinthians 13:1 AMP)

May Your love overflow into my relationships, empowering me to love others with authenticity and compassion.

Help me cultivate a heart of genuine love that my words and actions may be infused with Your grace and compassion.
Let love be the foundation of all I do, that my life may be a beautiful symphony of devotion to You and service to others.

3. Reflecting God's Character

John 13:34-35 NKJV
[34] A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  [35] By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

 Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the new commandment Jesus gave us: to love one another as He has loved us. (John 13:34-35:)

Help me:
- Love others selflessly, without expectation of return
- Demonstrate love through actions and words
- Show compassion, kindness, and humility
- Forgive freely, just as Jesus forgave me

May my love for others:
- Be a reflection of Your love for me
- Bring glory to Your name
- Draw others to Jesus

In Jesus' name, Amen."🙏🏾
