THE SUPREMACY OF THE WORD Part XII
Your Prophetic Destiny
John 1:1–5 - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
4 In Him was life [Zóé: This life is not merely an unending existence but a quality of life that is abundant and fulfilling, characterised by a relationship with God], and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
John 1:6 - “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.”
I. Sent as a Witness
- You Are Sent: Like John the Baptist, you are divinely commissioned and sent by God.
- You Have Come for a Witness: Your life’s purpose is to testify to the Light—the life and the Word of God.
- Bear Witness of the Light: Your calling is to reflect and declare the truth of God’s Word to those in darkness.
II. Your Identity and Purpose
John 1:23 - “He said: ‘I am “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’” as the prophet Isaiah said.” [Isaiah 40:3]
When asked about his identity, John did not speak of his lineage or personal attributes but of his God-ordained mission. Similarly, you must find your identity in your divine assignment, as revealed in the Word.
III. Your Prophetic Destiny Is in the Word
- Seek Your Prophetic Destiny in the Word: Just as John’s mission was foretold by Isaiah, your destiny is rooted in Scripture. Dive deep into the Word to uncover it.
- Find the Pattern and Trust the Process: God’s plans often unfold through a divine sequence. Trust His timing and process.
- Know the Scriptures and Live Them: Your destiny is not merely an idea but a mandate. Discover what the Word declares about you, embrace it passionately, and live it fully.
John the Baptist, though assured of his calling, faced moments of doubt—evidence of human frailty when reliance shifts from God to the senses. Contrast this with Jesus, who, in His darkest hour at Gethsemane, travailed in prayer and overcame.
IV. Are You Seeking the Word?
John 1:41–42 - “He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.”
The phrase “We have found” suggests intentional seeking. Andrew and others were not passive; they pursued the Messiah with urgency and expectation. Are you actively seeking God’s Word and His direction for your life?
V. God Uses People and Situations to Locate You in Destiny
John 1:42 - “And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, ‘You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas’ (which is translated, A Stone).”
The renaming of Simon to Peter (“a rock”) signified a prophetic declaration of his future role as a foundational leader in the Church (Matthew 16:18). Jesus did not merely alter his name; He revealed a destiny already established in heaven. This moment underscores the transformative power of encountering the Word.
- Divine Sequencing: God orchestrates encounters and situations to align individuals with their divine purpose. Simon’s meeting with Jesus was not random; it was preordained.
- Destiny Seeking You: Just as Peter sought meaning in life, his destiny was simultaneously pursuing him. Divine processes often involve mutual pursuit—our yearning for God and His pre-existing plans for us.
Conclusion: The Word declares the end from the beginning. Your life’s purpose is intricately woven into God’s eternal plan. Seek the Word, trust the divine process, and embrace the destiny ordained for you before the foundation of the world. Through your witness, others will find the Light, and through the Light, they will find life.
