3. The Prison Mindset – A Mindset of Limitation and Injustice
Description:
> Joseph was wrongly imprisoned after resisting Potiphar’s wife (Genesis 39:20). The prison mindset develops when one feels unfairly treated, stuck, or forgotten by those who once promised help (Genesis 40:23 - ‘Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.’)
What Maintains a Prison Mindset?
- Blaming others – Focusing on injustice instead of growth.
- Disillusionment with people – Losing trust in those who once showed favour.
- Loss of expectation – Giving up on personal dreams because of setbacks.
How to Overcome a Prison Mindset:
âś… Serve faithfully even in difficulty – Joseph interpreted dreams and remained productive (Genesis 40:5-22).
âś… Keep a posture of gratitude – Seeing every season as preparation for the next.
âś… Wait on God’s timing – Joseph did not force his release but waited on divine intervention (Genesis 41:14 - ‘Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh.’)

4. The Palace Mindset– A Mindset of Dominion and Influence
Description:
> The Palace represents fulfilment, authority, and strategic influence. Joseph became Egypt’s second-in-command (Genesis 41:40-44). A palace mindset embraces God’s purpose to bless others and bring transformation.
Revelation 5:10 - ‘And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.’
What Maintains a Palace Mindset?
- Understanding purpose – Knowing that promotion is for service, not self-glory.
- Kingdom stewardship – Using resources, power, and influence for God’s agenda.
- Forgiveness and reconciliation – Joseph reconciled with his brothers (Genesis 50:20 - 'But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.’)
How to Maintain a Palace Mindset:
âś… Use influence for God’s glory – Serve people, steward wealth, and advance God's kingdom.
âś… Remain humble – Joseph acknowledged God as the source of his wisdom (Genesis 41:16 - ‘So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.’)
âś… Mentor others – Raising successors for continued transformation.
