TRANSFORMED MIND FOR TERRITORIAL TRANSFORMATION – Part XXVI : WHEN LEADERSHIP DEMANDS MORE THAN YOU HAVE - TRUSTING GOD'S PROVISION
Content:
Matthew 14:13-16 - ‘13 When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities.
14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.
15 When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.”
16 But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.’
What are Jesus’ Teaching Points:
🌿1. Developing Responsibility & Problem-Solving in Leaders
Jesus was not just meeting needs—He was training His disciples. Instead of solving every problem Himself, He challenged them to think and act with faith and initiative. By saying, “You give them something to eat” (v.16), He pushed them beyond their limitations and forced them to confront how they could meet the need rather than just see the impossibilities.
🌿2. Teaching Faith & Resourcefulness
From a practical standpoint, feeding such a massive crowd with limited food (five loaves and two fish) seemed impossible. However, Jesus was showing them that leadership isn’t about relying solely on visible resources but trusting in God’s supernatural provision. Leaders often face overwhelming needs, and Jesus demonstrated that faith combined with action leads to abundance.
🌿3. Delegation & Administrative Growth
Rather than working alone, Jesus involved His disciples in organising the crowd (Mark 6:39-40 states they were seated in groups), distributing food, and collecting leftovers. This was an opportunity to develop delegation, order, and teamwork—essential leadership skills.
🌿4. Cultivating Compassion & Ownership
Jesus had just healed the sick (v.14), showing deep compassion. By asking His disciples to feed the people, He was teaching them that leadership is not just about teaching and healing but also about meeting practical needs. He was shaping them into shepherds who don’t just preach but also care for the holistic well-being of their people.
🌿5. Demonstrating God’s Sufficiency in Leadership
Jesus knew the disciples didn’t have the resources, but He wanted them to see that God provides when they act in obedience. Leadership often requires stepping out in faith, even when resources seem inadequate. The miracle that followed reinforced the truth that God’s provision exceeds human limitations.
